Collective Housing Project

Lyon, France
My project is located in the center of Oullins, south of the Lyon metropolitan area. My initial site analysis revealed a heterogeneous urban fabric, composed of suburban housing, high-rise towers, and industrial facilities.
The existing detached houses, which offer limited architectural quality and low density, are to be demolished and replaced by higher-quality collective housing.
My project aligns with the rational continuity of the existing towers, repurposing their architectural language to restore coherence to the urban fabric.

CONCEPTUAL DIAGRAM

This project offers a contemporary reinterpretation of the villa urbana. Defined by its rationality, this model is designed to adapt to diverse urban contexts.
Through its ground floor, it actively shapes the city by structuring the public realm. Its rational construction method allows for flexible use, facilitating the vertical development of the urban fabric.
This project is not an isolated intervention, but a reproducible prototype. It is designed to eventually expand into the neighboring suburban fabric as an urban strategy for sustainable densification.
To replace the suburban housing model, I propose the urban villa, or Palazzo. This typology frees up ground space to establish a new pedestrian network, shared facilities, and public spaces.
The construction method is based on the assembly of large-scale components. The structure relies on a precast concrete post-and-slab system, while the facade infill consists of prefabricated lightweight timber panels.
Accessing the units involves moving through a sequence of intermediate spaces, guiding the transition from the public realm to the private sphere.
